This one's hard to watch. It's not that there's gore (there isn't); it's just that you know what's happening in the car while they're trying to get him out :( .

May 15, 1992. Charlotte Motor Speedway. It's a qualifying race for the NASCAR Sportsman 150. Due to an earlier bump by other cars Gary Batson and Neal Connell find themselves pinched up against the wall, Batson's car on its edge, drivers-side down. Batson's car catches fire and its a long time before they get him out; Connell is not seriously injured but Batson suffers severe burns and is taken to hospital.

NOTE: This accident results in fatal injuries

May 16, 1992: Gary Batson and Neal Connell collide in turn four. Batson's car gets on its side, scrapes along the wall and bursts into flames. It takes firemen 35 seconds to reach the scene and more than a minute to extinguish the fire. Batson is conscious the entire time. At the hospital, when Batson's brother, Roy, arrives, Gary Batson turns his head, looks at his brother and starts crying. ``He knew,'' Roy Batson said later. ``You could tell he knew.'' Gary Batson dies of his burns about 15 hours after the crash.

Gary was 36. A year before, Philip Ross sold his car to Batson because Ross had been involved in a fire. It is not known whether or not this was the car involved in Batson's accident.

[There is some colour distortion and a couple of dropped frames; that the way it was on the less-than-ideal source tapes].

Thanks wildturnip.

Boy, that's just such an eerie occurance and watching that fire light up and slowly creep itself up into Batson's fuel tank while he's trapped in that most unusual way almost reminds you of those Final Destination movies where death ultimately catches up to those who cheated it and kills in the most inventive ways. Anyway, what a helpless situation there. :( In retrospect, Connell should have turned left and dewedged Batson's car before stopping to get out, but in that moment, you're fighting so hard to save your own life, its not easy to think that much.

Thanks for this, I'd seen it on Youtube. Could you please put warnings on descriptions of fatal crashes?
